As part of a recently awarded Australian Research Council Linkage grant, the
Centre for Aboriginal Economic Policy Research (CAEPR) invites applications
for an Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) scholarship leading to the
degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Anthropology. The scholarship is funded
by the Australian Research Council and would be available to take up from
early 2008.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the scholar will help design and carry
out multi-site ethnographic research on the project topic of the dynamics of
Indigenous interactions with the criminal justice system. A key part of the
research will involve interviews of Indigenous adults to develop a deeper
understanding of processes that underlie high rates of Indigenous arrest and
imprisonment. The scholar will be required to have a background in
anthropology or a similar social science discipline. Indigenous scholars in
particular are invited to apply.

The scholarship includes a stipend of $26,140 (tax free) for three years and
funding for fieldwork, relocation and thesis production.

Closing date for applications is 28 November 2007
