Hi all,
We have a seminar this Friday the 16th of November at 3pm in the Milgate
Room, AD Hope.
The presenter will be:
Quanmin Li
PhD Candidate
Department of Anthropology
Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies The Australian National
University
Title:
"Between Gift and Commodity: Tea, Exchange and Social Relations among the
Ang people in **China"***
Abstract:
My research aims to reveal how Ang use tea as a gift and a commodity to
express and create their relationships with insiders and outsiders in a
system of exchange, which has helped them to construct their identity and
distinguish themselves as against processes of Tai-ization and now
Sinicization in the contemporary society of China.
This mid-term review paper outlines my research interests, the purpose of my
research and the importance of using theories of gift and commodity exchange
in this research together with the thesis outline.
See you there
Yours truly,
Nelia Hyndman-Rizik
