Branch are pleased to bring Australia's first ever refugee film festival
to Canberra. 

 The Triumphant Refugees Short Film Festival will screen from:

 

6:00 - 8:00pm, Thursday September 20

Theo Notaras Multicultural Centre

2nd floor, North Building, 180 London Circuit

 

The evening will commence with drinks and light food after which a
refugee speaker will lead us into a series of short films based on a
refugee theme.  

 

We would love to see you and your friends at this event.  Entry is by
donation at the door and RSVPs are essential to

Ian Skiller is a stone fruit farmer living on the Murray River in
Tooleybuc NSW.

A few years ago a couple of refugees arrived at his front door with
nothing but a couple of pots and a blanket.

A story about the positive impacts refugees can make on our declining
rural communities.

 

"AN UNFORGETTABLE JOURNEY"

A student exchange between Miller and Gloucester High Schools aims to
bringstudents of migrant and refugee, and

non - migrant backgrounds together. But how easy is it to bridge the
cultural divide? Filmmaker Edgars Greste

assisted Year 11 student Saber Baluch to make this, his first film.

 

EVICTION" by Grady Walker (10m)

 

Grady Walker documents the injustices being perpetrated against Bhutan's
ethnic Nepali minority. Refugees, the

casualties of this "Eviction", tell us about their struggle in their own
words. But is the international community listening?

 

"HERE TO STAY" (9m)

A Sydney Sudanese community leader discusses the settlement issues
facing his community and talks about the good work being

done to address these challenges.

 

"IT'S LIKE THAT" by the Southern Ladies Animation Group

(SLAG) (7m)

An animated documentary based on the recorded voices of three children
who were interviewed over the phone while being detained

in one of Australia's Immigration Detention Centres. The children
reflect on their environment, the food and what they imagine Australia

is like 'outside'."CLOWNING AROUND" (5m)

Recently shown feature piece on ABC's jtv. See the amazing work done by
refugee children formerly in detention and the Australian

League of Immigration Volunteers (ALIV).

 

"RESPECT HOPE PRIDE CELEBRATE " by Blacktown MRC (10m)

A tribute to the contributions made by migrants & refugees in the
