'Red, Sweat, Shake: Presenting Your Research' by Bronwyn Hall
Publishing and presenting are central to academic life. This special
workship will show you how to take your published (or soon to be
published) work and present it in a compelling and concise way to an
academic audience. The workshop will cover:
1) The basic do's and don'ts of presenting in an academic context
2) Presenting at conferences and research seminars (How do you open a
presentation, create a structure for your presentation and end with a
punch?)
3) How to condense a large research paper into a 10-15 min conference /
seminar presentation
4) How to use PowerPoint presentations effectively
5) Strategies for managing nerves and handling questions from your audience
5) Q&A to address your specific concerns
The workshop will be conducted by Bronwyn Hall. Bronwyn manages 'The
Research Den', an online support service for students and is author of
The Night Before Essay Planner: A Workbook to Plan, Research and Write
your Next Essay (Fairfax Books). The Research Den and its partners are
currently travelling across Australia on an Interactive Book Tour where
Bronwyn is conducting public speaking, workshops and media interviews
weekly. Bronwyn has a Speech Craft qualification from Toastmasters
International and will share the tricks of the trade with workshop
participants. She is also a research assistant in public health at the
University of Sydney and has presented her research at numerous
conferences and seminars.
