[Anthropgrad] Reading group on the Anthropology of Christianity

Anyone interested in the Anthropology of Christianity is invited to join 
a newly convened ANU reading group on that subject. The first book that 
we are discussing is a 2006 volume  'The Anthropology of Christianity' 
edited by Fanella Cannell (for details see 
http://www.amazon.com/Anthropology-Christianity-Fenella-Cannell/dp/0822336464).

The two chapters to be discussed  at the next meeting are chapter 5 by 
Simon Coleman ('Materializing the Self: Words and Gifts in the 
Construction of Protestant Identity') and Chapter 8 by Danilyn 
Rutherford ('The Bible meets the Idol: Writing and Conversion in Biak, 
Irian Jaya, Indonesia'). If you would like to participate in the group, 
please email Fraser Macdonald <fraser.macdonald at anu.edu.au> and ask him 
to send you the PDFs of these chapters (and of the introductory chapter 
if you wish).

The next meeting will be on August 19 at 3:00 in Coombs Seminar Room C.
