dear Anthropgrad,

Thanks to everybody who sent in an expression
of interest in participating in the workshops
of October 21 and October 28 with Sherry Ortner.

The interest was very much in the direction of
`social theory', and so it seems sensible that
both days have this focus.

I'd like to ask everybody who sent in an intention
to participate to now send to me the `one-page'
briefly backgrounding your project and one or
more of the theoretical issues central to it.
One page please! and these will go to Sherry once
I collect them. We'll then set a program for
each day. She will begin each day with a presentation
of her own and then we will move to your work.

I am aware of one or two people who will ONLY be
around on the 21st -- got this in mind.

Tomorrow I will send an announcement how to obtain
access to parts of her book `Anthropology: Culture,
Power, and the Acting Subject' (2006) on an
Alliance site. (Some of you may have read parts of
this, and there is also access to large parts of it
on-line). Everybody who sent in a statement of
intention to participate will be added to the Alliance
site -- I WILL POST INSTRUCTIONS tomorrow.

Both workshops will be in AD Hope, the `old HRC Reading
Room', on the SAME floor as the Milgate Room but at the
opposite end of the building, overlooking Chifley
library. (Most of you know this room already). We'll
start each day at `9:00 for 9:30 start', with
REAL coffee (I promise!). And the start WILL be at
9:30 sharp.

So look for more tomorrow -- and send in your one-pagers!

Regards

Francesca
