*Writing Workshop—writing gender relations in ethnography.*
Facilitators:
Dr Tamara Jacka (GRC )
Prof Kathryn Robinson (Anthropology)
What is involved in writing ethnographic analyses of gender relations?
This two-part interactive workshop will introduce students to concepts
and strategies for writing up field research from a gender relations
perspective. How does this differ from writing about women/men or
masculinity/femininity? How does gender shape power relations in social
institutions such as workplaces, the family and the state? How does one
write the intersections/interactions between gender, class and ethnicity?
The workshop will be held over two sessions.
*Session one- introduction to writing gender relations. Tuesday 16
12-2.30 (incl lunch)
In this session, participants will come prepared to discuss with the
group how they might address an aspect of their research from a gender
relations perspective. There will be some readings pre-circulated.
There will also be an exercise to begin a piece of writing focusing on
the students own research material.
*Participants will compete 2-3000 words of this writing by the following
Friday, for circulation to group members
****
*Session two- Writing gender relations- pitfalls and possibilities. Tues
23 12-2.30 (incl lunch)
In this session, participants will discuss the circulated writing in
small groups, and this will be the basis of a general session reflecting
on strategies for writing gender analysis
