> Dear Library Staff,

> Further to Lucy Bleming’s message below about working as an ITAS
tutor, I would highly recommend this to any suitably qualified Library
staff. I found this undertaking not only challenging and rewarding from
the tutoring perspective, but I also got some valuable insight into the
students’ library needs and concerns.

> Pat

> PS The financial rewards aren’t bad either.

> Do you know of any suitable Honours/Postgraduate students or Sessional
tutors who would be interested in registering as Tutors for the
Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme in 2009? If so please forward this
email to them or ask them to contact me as I am currently updating our
register.

> The Ngunnawal Centre provides academic, cultural and social support to
Indigenous students. The Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS)
allows for up to 2 hours per week, per student, per unit at
approximately $34 per hour for individual tuition. There is also the
opportunity for small group work.

> Tutors must be culturally aware, have empathy, an understanding of
student needs and an awareness to address these needs. They will also
have knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, an
ability to relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and
knowledge of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

> To be eligible to conduct tuition, tutors must be formally educated or
have acquired relevant experience in the area of study in which the
student is enrolled.

> For more information please contact me via email or drop by the centre
