Juluwarlu Aboriginal Corporation is seeking volunteers with skills in
anthropology and or lingistics
Juluwarlu Aboriginal Corporation is an Indigenous organisation dedicated
to the recording, preservation and maintenance of Yindjibarndi language
and culture. Our office is located in Roebourne, not far from the coast
in the northwest of Australia, and our country encompasses Millstream
Chichester National Park. We are currently seeking volunteers with
skills in linguistics and/or anthropology to work with Elders and
language workers on our songs, oral history and dictionary projects.
Songs Project
This project involves working with Elders to transcribe traditional and
contemporary Yindjibarndi songs, with the view to producing a CD and
booklet.
Interactive Dictionary
Juluwarlu is producing a dictionary on CD-ROM to help revitalise our
language. We need volunteers to check entries and make sound recordings
with our Elders.
Oral History Project
Volunteers will conduct interviews about, record on film, and transcribe
some of the rich oral history of our Elders.
Juluwarlu will provide return domestic airfares, accommodation in nearby
Karratha, and access to a vehicle to volunteers working with us for a
minimum of four weeks.
If you would like to discuss making a contribution during 2008 to one or
more of these projects, please contact Lorraine Coppin on 08 9182 1497
or at lcoppin at juluwarlu.pilbara.net.
