**One day writng retreat for anthropology students-funded by Asia Pacific
Futures Research Network*
*Thursday 31 July*
*
Kathy Robinson and Assi Doran will run a one day writing retreat for
students this Thursday, at University House.(9-5)
The day will include two workshops ("On Getting Started" and "Critiquing
your own and others' work") and two blocks of writing.
Participants come with a piece of writing -you can begin something new
or work on an ongoing piece-for example a thesis chapter or an article.
You also need a laptop computer (unles you prefer to handwrite). You
need to commit for the whole day.

You need to bring any materials (references, fieldnotes) that you need
as one of the aims is to quaratine us all from e-mail and other
web-based distractions for a day. Also bring a pad and writing materials.

There will be tea and coffee in the writing room, but you will need to
organise your own lunch (in a short 40 min lunch break)

We have run a previous retreat which was very successful. Apart from the
benefit of a day of enforced writing blocks and the workshops, for some
people there is a benefit from working in a group setting, as opposed to
the more usual isolation of academic writing practice.

Places are limited so if you are interested in attending pls contact
Fay Castles on X52162 (Fay.Castles at anu.edu.au)
