The deadline for submitting abstracts for this year's AAS conference has
been extended to 14 May, but there will be no further extensions after
that --- as explained in the recent message below from conference
organizer Veronica Strang. For details about how to submit one see
http://www.theasa.org/asa08/callforpapers.html (But note that the new
deadline has not been added there yet)
If you are an ANU postgrad and are still trying to make up you mind
about whether to submit an abstract, please note that there will be
extra funds available this year from A&A, RSPAS Anthrop,
RSH, CAEPR and RMAP to help fund students' travel to the conference.
This is because funds which were supplied by those areas to help cover
expenses for last year's AAS conference turned out to be surplus to
requirement and so were returned on condition that they be used to help
fund students' travel for this year's conference. So act now while you
still have chance!
Alan
Dear Colleagues,
Our joint conference now has about 380 paper proposals. While not
wishing to be too rigid about the May 1st deadline for paper
submissions, we do need to close this off soon. I know that we are
usually more flexible with conferences in this part of the world, but in
this instance we have a lot of people submitting papers from overseas
and there are some key funding deadlines coming up. The May 19th
deadline for convenors to make decisions on papers was fixed largely to
ensure that our overseas colleagues will get a response on their
abstracts in time to apply for travel funds. We feel the deadlines
should be the same for everyone.
We also have to deal with a number of requests for larger panels: the
conference committee will try to do this within the next few days. In
the meantime, we'd like to set Wednesday 14th May as a truly FINAL
deadline for paper submissions (after which Rohan will close the
submission process). This still gives everyone a few days' grace in
which to get abstracts submitted, but also leaves panel convenors with a
little time in which to finalise their decisions and let people know
whether their papers have been accepted, in time for THEM to meet the
funding deadlines. I hope this sufficiently balances everyones needs!
kind regards,
Veronica Strang
