THE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG
Founded in 1911, The University of Hong Kong is committed to the highest

years. Of a number of recent indicators of the University's
performance, one is its ranking at 26 among the top 200 universities in
the world by the UK's Times Higher Education Supplement. The University
has a comprehensive range of study programmes and research disciplines,
with 20,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students from 50 countries,
and a complement of 1,200 academic members of staff, many of whom are
internationally renowned.

Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor
(RAP) in the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences
(HKIHSS), from as soon as possible but not later than July 31, 2009, on
a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.
Applicants should have a geographical interest in at least two of the
following regions: (a) East Asia, (b) Southeast, (c) South Asia and
Indian Ocean, and (d) Gulf region and Middle East. A Ph.D. degree or a
Ph.D. candidature close to completion in a relevant discipline is
required. The appointee should also have research expertise on *EITHER*
Historical Global (multi-disciplinary research expertise on historical,
social economic and cultural process), *OR* Contemporary Global
(multi-disciplinary research expertise on global cities, migratory flows

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and
experience will be offered. The appointment will attract a contract-end
gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme,
totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as leave, and
