Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor 
(RAP) in the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences 
(HKIHSS), from as soon as possible but not later than July 31, 2009, on 
a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.

Applicants should have a geographical interest in at least two of the 
following regions: (a) East Asia, (b) Southeast, (c) South Asia and 
Indian Ocean, and (d) Gulf region and Middle East.  A Ph.D. degree or a 
Ph.D. candidature close to completion in a relevant discipline is 
required.  The appointee should also have research expertise on *EITHER* 
Historical Global (multi-disciplinary research expertise on historical, 
social economic and cultural process), *OR* Contemporary Global 
(multi-disciplinary research expertise on global cities, migratory flows

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and 
experience will be offered.  The appointment will attract a contract-end 
gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme,
