Venue : Coombs Lecture Theater, ANU

"Laskar Pelangi" (the Rainbow Warriors) is adapted from the phenomenal
Indonesian novel by Andrea Hirata.

It’s a story of children in a small elementary school in a small
island at the northern part of Indonesia, Belitung.

Being the largest tin producer in South East Asia, most of the
Belitung people live in poverty. The only school in that area was
located in an abandoned animal stall which was always flooded in a
rainy season. There were only 10 children studying in that school, and
in Grade 6, when they graduated the number even dropped into 9. The
local government was nearly closed this school coz it’s too small and
not economical. Fortunately, these children had a very dedicated
headmaster and a very inspirational teacher.

The movie is filled with heroic stories about life challenges, stories
about reaching your dreams, and stories about the beauty of
friendship. Mostly portrays the very essence of beauty that Indonesia
has.

It has English subtitle.

This film surely not to be missed!!!!
