This lecture argues that the putting into practice of US strategies in the
Andean region, particularly in Colombia, has exacerbated the historical
problems of the region. An acute social and political polarization has
developed during the past few years. On the extremes of such a contradiction
are the governments of Venezuela, Bolivia, and Ecuador, on the one side, and
the Colombian government with the support of the United States, on the other
side. In the complex regional context above presented, the lecture aims to
analyze the effects of American strategies in the Andean region, and the
main political and economic components of the projects presented by the
alternative governments there.
