1. SLC Brainstorming Workshop 5.15pm 1st November Bernard Neuman Room, Bruce
Hall, ANU, Refreshments Provided.
In preparing for next year, the Sustainability Learning Community will
be holding a brainstorming session TONIGHT (flyer attached). We are
trying to reach as broad an audience as possible to get some great
ideas for:
· evaluating and refocusing the learning community goals,
· identifying different ways of engaging students which
complement existing programs and groups – in particular, they need
strategies other than lectures, discussion forums and conference-type
formats,
· ways of engaging with research,
· ways of increasing interaction between postgraduate and
undergraduate students,
· new projects,
· new collaborative projects and
· themes to explore in existing projects such as their discussion forums.
Brainstorming sessions are a fantastic way to get input and buy-in
from a large and really diverse group of people, as well as set some
goals for the next couple of years, so the learning community is
hoping for a big response to their session next week.
The session will run from 5.15 to 6.30 pm, with refreshments served
from 5 pm. It will be held in the Bernhard Neumann Room at Bruce Hall
(building 40, Daley Road).
I would really appreciate if you could spare just an hour to come
along and give some thoughts on how to improve the SLC.

2. Frogwatch 2011
Annual monitoring of frog populations along Sullivans Creek and other
key sites was carried out during 16 – 22 October. The data collected
will indicate the health of the aquatic environment of ANU. A large
thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who made this effort
successful.
3. Weeding at Acton grassy woodlands
The next session for volunteers maintaining grassy woodlands near Old
Canberra House is on Wednesday 16th November 13:00-16:00. Please mark
it in your diary and contact ANUgreen Biodiversity Officer
tim.yiu at anu.edu.au to register your interest - this will also ensure
that enough weeding tools are available on the day.
4. Volunteer NOW for the ANU Bird Survey 2012!
Seasonal monitoring of bird populations at ANU and surrounds will be
carried out in January 2012. Monitoring will be done on the morning of
Saturday 21st January. Volunteers will get to learn from experienced
bird waters from the Canberra Ornithologists Group, and be rewarded
with a big THANK YOU BRUNCH for their efforts. If you are interested,
please register with ANUgreen Biodiversity Officer tim.yiu at anu.edu.au.
