Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences is a new School established in
January 2002 by amalgamation of the Schools of Biological Science and
Geology and elements of Geography. The School has broad research and
teaching interests in the above discipline areas and in environmental
science. Applications are sought for a continuing position, at the level of
Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, to strengthen research groups within the
School and enhance teaching in soil science.
Essential criteria for both levels: a research doctorate in a relevant
area; an innovative research program preferably with a focus on the
interface between soils, plants and water, or between soils, water and
geomorphology; evidence of effective teaching; ability to develop and teach
courses at all levels across broad areas of soil science and to contribute
to core teaching in earth science; ability to supervise field and
laboratory research projects at Honours and Postgraduate levels in the
discipline area; excellent oral and written communication skills; knowledge
of OHS responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant OHS training.
Essential criteria at Lecturer level: success in conducting high quality
research; capacity to continue productive research at an international
level; understanding of equity and diversity principles.
Essential criteria at Senior Lecturer level: proven research achievement at
an international level; a significant publication record in internationally
refereed journals; and research supervision at undergraduate and
postgraduate levels; ability to implement equity and diversity policies and
programs.
Desirable criteria at both levels: interest in adoption of educational
technology in teaching.; success in obtaining research grants.
The salary range for Lecturer is $59,181 - $69,716 per year and for Senior
Lecturer is $71,820 - $76,033 per year depending on qualifications and
experience. This salary includes a superable UNSW academic loading of
$3,000 per annum payable to all academic staff (pro rata for fractional
academic staff).
Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of
employment.
