Postdoc Position
on
Providing more informative predictions of climate
change impact on plant species distribution
The candidate will work on the MODIPLANT project aiming at providing more informative predictions of
climate change impact on plant species distribution.
By doing so, he/she will also contribute to improve our fundamental knowledge of species distributions and
related ecological processes.
The project has five main aims: 1-compare projections at various scales, 2-assess model robustness, 3-take
dispersal into account, 4-estimate projection uncertainty, 5-assess species' sensitivities to climate change. If
time allows, we will additionally: 6-explore ways to build species' assemblages, and 7-assess the role of
reserve in maintaining future biodiversity.
Species data for conducting these analyses have already been sampled during three summer field campaigns
and a large set of environmental predictor is also already available for the study area (Swiss Western Alps).
The candidate will additionally have to interact with two ongoing PhD students to improve modelling tools
and methodological aspects.
The candidate should have a skilled expertise in spatial modelling of species distribution and multivariate
and remotes sensing analyses of vegetation data, and feel comfortable working with ArcGIS (and related
extensions), Erdas Imagine, S-Plus and/or R (statistical packages). Additional knowledge of botany, and
particularly the alpine flora of the Alps, and use of high-precision GPS would be highly appreciated.
