Please pass this advertisement onto individuals who are looking to do post-graduate research in fluvial geomorphology, geochronology and chrono-stratigraphy in Australia.

The University of Wollongong has one of the strongest Earth science departments in Australia with internationally-leading geochronology, geospatial and geochemistry laboratories. We have a growing post-graduate program with a strong research strength (GeoQuest) in palaeoenvironmental research and landscape evolution. We invite international applicants to consider applying for a combined International post-graduate research scholarship (IPRS) and University Post-Graduate Award (UPA) for a project titled:

"Fluvial evidence for glacial‐age runoff: a palaeohydrological record for SE Australia"

In short, we know very little as to what the characteristics of rivers were in south-eastern Australia in the LGM. Our Australian Research Council (ARC) project "The last glaciation maximum climate conundrum and environmental response of the Australian continent to altered climate states" has funding to top up a IPRS/UPA scholarship valued at $4777 per annum. All fieldwork costs are covered. In addition, the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences has internal funding to assist students to conferences and for other purposes. A first class Honours degree, a strong Masters thesis and/or publications from these will assist you greatly in the ranking process. The deadline for international and domestic applicants is the 17th October for commencement in February to March 2012. Project supervisors will be Dr Tim Cohen (University of Wollongong) and Dr Justine Kemp (Northumbria University). This project is well supported financially and is part of a large multi-institution research collaborative.
