Applications are invited for a permanent post at lecturer level in the Department of Geography, Royal Holloway University of London. The successful applicant will join the Department’s Centre for Quaternary Research (CQR). We invite applicants who hold a PhD in Quaternary Science, Physical Geography or related relevant discipline, or equivalent and demonstrate an excellent research profile, with a record or the potential to publish research in top tier academic journals. The successful applicant will be expected to attract PhD projects and research funding. The successful candidate will also have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The successful candidate’s work will engage with and extend the work of the CQR. This research centre, based in the Department of Geography, is one of the most significant clusters of expertise in Quaternary Science in the UK, and has played a leading role in shaping understanding of past climates and environments. The CQR has a close working relationship with other universities and major research institutions, particularly the Natural History Museum. The CQR runs a very successful MSc programme in Quaternary Science. This programme has run for over 20 years, and many major figures in the specialism have been trained at Royal Holloway. The Department is part of the London NERC Doctoral Training Partnership, and is also eligible for AHRC funding for PhDs focused on archaeological research.

The successful applicant will join one of the UK’s strongest Geography Departments, with other research specialisms in cultural geography, development, environmental sustainability and geopolitics. The Department has a strong community ethos and commitment to engaged teaching, with a wide-ranging programme of fieldwork built into undergraduate and masters level teaching. It also has digital facilities for GIS and other forms of analysis and visualisation.

The College was ranked 102nd in the Times HE World University Rankings for 2013-14. This is a full time and permanent post based in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.
