Within the DFG funded project ‘The application of radiofluorescence
dating (IR-RF) on loess‘, the Chair for Physical Geography (Prof. M.
Fuchs), Department of Geography, Justus-Liebig-University of Giessen,
Germany, offers a

*3-year 75% PhD or Post-doc position
on radiofluorescence dating of feldspars applied to loess.***

Payment will be according to ’Entgeltgruppe 13 Tarifvertrag Hessen
(TV-H)’. This is equivalent to a gross salary of 30 – 40 k€ per year,
depending on previous experience.

The candidate will further develop the technique of radiofluorescence,
and will apply it to polymineral fine grain and coarse grain feldspar
samples. The sedimentary archives will comprise several loess units,
e.g. in Germany and the Czech Republic. For this purpose, our
luminescence laboratory is equipped with two high-end Lexsyg readers,
including an RF-unit and a spectrometer. Furthermore, we offer an
experienced and motivating team of researchers dealing with luminescence
dating, geomorphology and Quaternary sciences.

Candidates should have a master/diploma degree or a PhD in natural
sciences, preferably in geosciences or physics and a background in
luminescence dating. Those applying for a PhD position should proof
their qualification through excellent grades and a related topic of
their master’s thesis. Candidates already holding a PhD should provide
evidence of high-quality research and a good publication record in
peer-reviewed journals. A motivated, well organized, creative and
enthusiastic team-player who will contribute to the group’s scientific
success is much welcomed. Good English language skills are required.
