First Announcement and Call for Posters<br><br>
You are invited to attend the National Cetacean Research
Partnerships<br>
Workshop in Ballina, Northern NSW from Sunday 2nd to Tuesday 4th May
2004.<br>
This Workshop will bring together organisations and individuals
currently<br>
carrying out cetacean research and management in Australian waters,
in<br>
order to discuss research needs and priorities for future
research.<br><br>
Presentations by key researchers will provide an overview of
current<br>
scientific understanding of cetacean distribution, biology,
habitats,<br>
conservation status and threats in Australian waters. The Workshop
will<br>
also identify major research needs, research priorities for
different<br>
sectors, and the potential for research partnerships to maximise
the<br>
benefits from investment in cetacean research. All people and<br>
organisations from the scientific research community, industry,<br>
non-government conservation organisations and State/Territory and<br>
Australian government departments involved with cetacean research
and<br>
management are invited and strongly encouraged to attend.<br><br>
A fully refereed proceedings from the Workshop will be published,<br>
documenting current knowledge of cetacean distribution, biology,
ecology<br>
etc. and management issues, based on the invited presentations by
key<br>
speakers and their co-authors. In addition, all other attendees are<br>
invited to present a poster for display during the Workshop, and text
from<br>
these posters can be submitted for inclusion in the published
proceedings,<br>
as a single page extended Abstract. In addition, an updated list of<br>
contact details for people/organisations working on cetacean research
and<br>
management in Australia will also be produced.<br><br>
Further details about the workshop venue, travel, accommodation,<br>
presenters and publication will be provided in a subsequent
email.<br><br>
The workshop is supported and funded by the Australian Government<br>
Department of the Environment and Heritage through the Natural
Heritage<br>
Trust, and hosted and organised by the Southern Cross University
Whale<br>
Research Centre, Lismore NSW.<br><br>
