</dl><i>The Southern African Society for Quaternary Research (SASQUA)
will hold its XVI Conference from 30 March3 April 2005 at the University
of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa.<br>

<dd>Our theme is inspired by the words on Paul Gauguins famous painting
of 1897:
<dd>Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?
</dl>Quaternary research deals with these questions and we invite you to
make a contribution.<br><br>
Workshops or special sessions have been suggested for:<br>
Dating problems<br>
African Pollen Database<br>
Palaeo-site research and development strategy <br>
Further suggestions for special sessions or workshops are invited.
<br><br>
Excursions to interesting palaeo-sites in the Free State and surroundings
will be arranged. Provisional destinations:<br>
Springs, pans and fossil sites like Florisbad (home of the Florisbad
skull housed at the National Museum, Bloemfontein) and Baden Baden, rock
art localities, etc. <br><br>
Nominations for the Oliver Davies Medal for young researchers usually
awarded at the conference are awaited.<br><br>
A call for abstracts, details about accommodation, the program, speakers,
excursions, etc., will in due course appear on our web site and in a 2nd
circular.<br><br>
