It is with deep regret that we inform friends and colleagues that Dr
Soewito Santoso (KRT Wironagoro) passed away peacefully at Canberra
Hospital yesterday afternoon (Thursday, November 30).  Pak Wito was an
internationally respected scholar, teacher and author in the field of
Javanese history, religion and literature.  He was Lecturer and Senior
Lecturer at the ANU Faculty of Asian Studies from 1964 to 1987 and awarded
the Bintang Gerilya for recognition of his services in the Student Army in
the Indonesian struggle for independence.  A prayer service will be held
at the Canberra Mosque today (Friday 1 Dec) with a burial service to be
held at Woden Cemetery at 2.00pm.
