">Peter Leedman is Head of the Laboratory for Cancer Medicine at the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR) and Deputy Director. After graduating in Medicine at the UWA (1981), he moved to Melbourne for training in Endocrinology and a PhD at the WEHI before pursuing postdoctoral studies in gene regulation at Harvard Medical School. In 1994 he returned to Australia to take up a clinical academic position in the School of Medicine and Pharmacology at UWA based at Royal Perth Hospital. His laboratory has focused on the mechanisms regulating expression of key therapeutic targets in hormone-dependent cancer (breast and prostate), including the estrogen and androgen receptors and epidermal growth factor receptor. His team's recent work has uncovered several new members of a complex network of nuclear receptor hormone coregulators and focused on the functional role of microRNAs in cancer.</SPAN></FONT></SPAN></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0cm;
