UTS: public talk by Tricia Johns

Tricia Johns is a Australian based in Timor Leste, who established and has
been facilitating a prominent textile micro-enterprises in Timor Leste since
late 1999, the year of East Timor's independence vote.

Working with the traditional Timorese woven cloth 'tais', this
micro-enterprise dually fosters traditional textile practices, as well as
appropriating the textiles into contemporary designs to expand their profile
through international marketplaces.

As micro-enterprises enable communities to develop their skills and
resources, they are becoming one of the more successful ways of aiding
developing countries.

Tricia will be talking about the 'tais', the structure of the
micro-enterprise, as well as the impact that the continuing development has
in the lives of the Timorese involved with the venture.

When: Wednesday December 10th, 4.00pm.
