Abstract:This research paper applies the modified gravity model (an econometric model) to examine the regional trade pattern, its determinants and the impacts of trade between Timor-Leste and its trading partners.
This paper suggests that distance affects the trade flows negatively, implying that the trade resistance factors, such as transportation costs, trade facilitation, and trade access barriers have higher
negative impact on trade flow than expected. The economic size of trade partners and South East Asian regional trade affect the trade flow positively.
Based on these results, several policy implications are discussed in the conclusion.
