[enviro-vlc] The fool’s gold of carbon trading

Dear Vern, thanks for posting the November 30 *London Times *article, 'The
fool's gold of carbon trading.'   The article explains the fatal flaws in
the trading systems that are being touted by the financial wizards and by
entirely too many in the development community as a remedy for too many
carbon emissions.  The notion of an 'easy fix' (carbon trading) is seductive
and illusory.

Climate change will not be slowed, and ultimately turned around, until the
full costs of carbon emissions are reflected in its price.  That in turn
requires governments and people of the world summon the political will to
curb their appetites for carbon-based energy and divert sufficient resources
to the development and commercialization of appropriate technologies.

That's my rant for today.  Everyone -- read the *Times* article!  Cheers,
