Quang Ninh: Six tons of illegal rare timber confiscated

On Highway 18A near Minh Thanh commune, Yen Hung district, Quang Ninh province, Environmental Police working in cooperation with Traffic Police discovered a truck containing approximately six tons of rare timber, mainly timber listed in group 2A.

Ho Chi Minh City: Discovery of 9 kg rhinoceros horns being illegally imported

On 14th May, the Custom Department at Tan Son Nhat airport confiscated two rhinoceros horns weighing 9 kg. The total value of these horns is estimated at 100,000USD. This is the second time the Customs Department has discovered rhinoceros horns being illegally imported into Vietnam since early 2008.

Quang Tri: 300 kg wildlife confiscated

On 15th May, Quang Tri Economic Police working in cooperation with Traffic Police confiscated approximately 300 kg wildlife, comprised mostly of monitor lizards (Varanus sp.). Three days previously, one ton of wildlife was also confiscated in this area.

Save Con Chim Mangrove forest

Con Chim Mangrove forest is home to many marine animal and plant species, as well as being an important source of income for local residents. However the unsustainable development of aquaculture in the area has damaged the ecology of the mangrove forest.

Ground water polluted 

Ground water is the largest and highest quality source of freshwater in Vietnam. However, in recent years inefficient use has led to a loss of ground water, reducing supply capacity and increasing the severity of pollution.

Binh Thuan: Clearing special use forest for manioc cultivation

Located in Ham Thuan Nam district, Binh Thuan province, Ta Kou Reserve has long been famous for its rich biodiversity. However a recent decision by the reserve's management team to allow the clearing of 83 ha of special use forest in order to grow manioc is having a severe impact on biodiversity.
