Traditional food with antioxidant properties, A dictionary of Malaysian
timbers and more
The Forest Research Institute of Malaysia announces the publication of 4 new
books inlcuding A dictionary of Malaysian timbers, An in-depth look at
enrichment planting, Nature's choice to wellness: antioxidant vegetables/ulam,
Activities in wetlands and Birds of FRIM
Title: A dictionary of Malaysian timbers
Although there exists a large number of published works on Malaysian timbers,
these publications are often scattered resulting in a haphazard and often
incomplete gathering of information. The dictionary covers a large array of
timber species, provides information such as the physical, mechanical and
processing properties of each species, and gives the current and potential uses
of as many timber species as possible. It is hoped that with the information
presented, lesser-known and hitherto underutilized timbers can be better
understood and utilized. The entries are arranged in alphabetical order making
checking of information very easy. It is, therefore, a handy reference material
for timber traders, students, scientists and those who work with timbers in one
way or another.
Title: An in-depth look at enrichment planting
Recognizing the importance of enrichment planting, the Forest Research Institute
Malaysia has compiled and document available information on trials of enrichment
planting undertaken to date. In addition, the document contains an in-depth
review and analysis of the effectiveness of enrichment planting. This book
represents a comprehensive review of enrichment planting trials conducted in
Peninsular Malaysia with the aim that it will be used as an authoritative
document for future reference. The book contains eight chapters with Chapter 3
highlighting case studies conducted in Peninsular Malaysia. It is envisaged that
this book would serve as a useful reference and guide in the establishment of
enrichment planting programmes within the country.
Title: Nature's choice to wellness: antioxidant vegetables/ulam
Antioxidant food enhances the immune system, prevents infections, increases
general health and ability and maintains youthfulness, activeness, alertness and
a high level of energy. This book documents 20 such vegetables species, commonly
consumed as 'ulam' by the Malaysian community, that would make excellent
antioxidant food.
Title: Activities in wetlands
This book offers us an opportunity to understand the freshwater ecosystem and
what makes up the biodiversity in such ecosystem. There are four major
components in this book, namely Wetland Ecosystem, Aquatic Plants, Aquatic
Insect and Wetland Birds. Readers would benefit in terms of learning about the
wetland environment and participating in creative activities that children can
relate to and have fun with nature.
Title: Birds of FRIM
Birds of FRIM is the first book relating to the bird fauna found at the grounds.
This book has 50 species of birds described and illustrated with photographs as
well as a comprehensive checklist. Aimed as a guide to bird finding, different
habitats or areas or trails are described. The concise text provides vital
information that will ensure accurate identification of species.
