The Wildlife Conservation Society is currently seeking candidates interested
in providing technical advice for the development and implementation of
climate change strategies, national REDD readiness policies, and forest
carbon-based field projects in Cambodia and Laos. The positions build on
WCS's experience at working with national Governments to establish voluntary
carbon market REDD projects, such as the Seima Protection Forest in
Cambodia. They are also intended to contribute to national REDD policy
development processes, particularly in Cambodia where WCS technical advisors
play a leading role supporting the national REDD Taskforce.
One REDD Technical Advisor (RTA) will be located in Cambodia; the other in
Laos. Each will provide direct support to emerging forest carbon activities
in the respective country and will coordinate regionally with WCS programs,
governments and donors. The RTA will provide technical assistance to WCS
climate change mitigation initiatives in the country, with a focus on
leading and assisting in the technical analysis for project development and
feasibility studies for Reduce Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation
(REDD) projects. In addition, he/she will support WCS initiatives working
with governments in the development of climate change initiatives in the
region, particularly REDD Readiness efforts.
The precise details of the positions are flexible and are dependent on the
applicants received. Ideally, up to three positions are available, focusing
on:
- National REDD Readiness in Cambodia (1 position)
- Development of REDD voluntary carbon market projects, in Cambodia
and Laos, and contributing to regional policy dialogues (up to 2 positions)
- Provision of Regional Remote Sensing and GIS support (1 position)
Interested applicants should contact myself or Marisa Arpels
(marpels at wcs.org) at WCS New York.
I would be grateful if this announcement could be forwarded to potential
candidates you might be aware of.
Many thanks, Tom Clements

Founded in 1895, the Wildlife Conservation Society works to save wildlife
and wild places across the globe. WCS's story began in the early 1900's when
WCS successfully helped the American bison recover on the Western Plains.
Today, WCS protects many of the world's iconic creatures here and abroad,
including gorillas in the Congo, tigers in India, wolverines in the
Yellowstone Rockies, and ocean giants in the world's amazing seascapes. WCS
currently manages about 500 conservation projects in more than 60 countries;
and educates millions of visitors at five living institutions in New York
City on important issues affecting our planet. With a commitment to protect
25 percent of the world's biodiversity, WCS addresses four of the biggest
issues facing wildlife and wild places: climate change; natural resource
exploitation; the connection between wildlife health and human health; and
the sustainable development of human livelihoods. While taking on these
issues, WCS manages more than 200 million acres of protected lands around
the world, with more than 200 scientists on staff.
