Endangered Monkeys in Vietnam
By THOMAS LIN
Terry Gosliner has concluded his expedition in search of nudibranchs
in the Philippines and answered readers’ questions about the colorful
sea slugs.
Now we turn to Eleanor Sterling, a conservation biologist with the
American Museum of Natural History, who is studying how to protect
Vietnam’s most recently described primate, the gray-shanked douc. This
leaf-eating monkey is threatened by hunting, with an estimated global
population of 550 to 700. Dr. Sterling has more than 25 years of field
research experience in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Stay tuned for
her updates from the forests of central Vietnam.
