MEETING TO CELEBRATE JAMES HECTOR, 8 NOVEMBER 2007, WELLINGTON James
Hector died 100 years ago, in November 1907. For the preceding 40 years
he had been the dominant person in NZ science - in charge of the
Colonial Museum (now Te Papa), NZ Institute (now Royal Society of New
Zealand) and NZ Geological Survey (now GNS Science).

The Hector family plans a reunion, and in combination with that plans
are underway for a one-day scientific and historical meeting on Thursday
8 November at Te Papa to commemorate Hector's activities and legacy. It
will include talks covering aspects of Hectors career. A programme and
registration form will be available in August.

If you would like more information or want to be sent the registration
form, please email s.nathan at xtra.co.nz
