Dear Colleagues,
The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2005 Study (www.globalburden.org)
is underway and involves a systematic assessment of the data on
diseases and injuries for 21 regions that span the world's population.
In some GBD Regions there is ample literature accessible through
electronic databases. In others, national and local data are not
easily accessible. We are looking for reports of stroke incidence,
prevalence, and case-fatality for the following GBD Regions: Central,
South & Southeast Asia; Latin America and the Caribbean; North Africa
and the Middle East; and sub-Saharan Africa.
The data will be used to estimate global stroke burden for 1980 and
2005, therefore reports from 1980 to 2009 are of interest. We need
population-based data that include non-fatal strokes in the community,
fatal strokes in the community, and hospitalized stroke cases. Data on
age, gender and stroke type, if available, are needed.
If you are aware of any publications on this topic, or if you yourself
conducted such a study, please send it to Dr. Ambar Kulshreshtha in
the Division of Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention, Centers for Disease
Control & Prevention at: ihd8 at cdc.gov.
We would be happy to answer any questions you may have on this
project. We thank you for your time and consideration and we hope that
you can contribute to this important global health effort. We look
forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Ambar Kulshreshtha, MBBS, MPH
