CRiSTAL Website Launched by IISD

More and more organizations and governments across the world are realizing the
importance of integrating climate change adaptation into their development
interventions. This has led to a growing worldwide interest in CRiSTAL
(Community-based Risk Screening Tool – Adaptation and Livelihoods), which is a
screening tool designed to help project designers and managers integrate risk
reduction and climate change adaptation into community-level projects.

CRiSTAL was developed by the International Institute for Sustainable Development
(IISD), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Stockholm
Environment Institute - United States (SEI-US) and the Swiss Foundation for
Development and International Cooperation (Intercooperation).

Using feedbacks and recommendations from CRiSTAL users, IISD is improving the
tool on a regular basis. It is now offered in various formats (Excel and hard
copy) and multiple languages (English, French, and soon Spanish).

Training workshops on CRiSTAL are being conducted in different regions around
the world. Two training of trainers workshops were organized by IISD in
sub-Saharan Africa (Mozambique and Ghana) in 2007 and another one was conducted
in Francophone Africa (Niger) in 2008. IISD is also partnering with different
organizations to adapt CRiSTAL to their specific needs, organize staff training
workshops, explore synergies with other adaptation tools, and support the
application of CRiSTAL in development projects across the world.

As a result of this growing interest for CRiSTAL, and with financial support
from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), IISD is now
launching the CRiSTAL website: www.cristaltool.org.
