Da Nang launches first aid plan on World Red Cross Day
On May 8 the Da Nang chapter of the Vietnamese Red Cross launched the city’s
plan to prevent accidents and injuries in response to the 2009 World Red Cross
and Red Crescent Day.
The new plan was unveiled at a ceremony marking the 150th anniversary of the Red
Cross and 90th anniversary of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red
Crescent Societies.
Da Nang’s action plan will run until 2010 and includes conducting 200 training
courses on first aid and establishing 150 community based first-aid stations
manned by volunteers.
At the same time, the Da Nang Red Cross will continue with its charity programme
which aims to provide scholarships, job training and funding for 1,200 poor
people and 30,000 free meals for poor patients in 2009-2010.
In addition, the chapter plans to join hands in efforts to cope with the
prominent threat of climate change through disseminating information on the
danger and encouraging the public to join in moves to protect the environment.
On the occasion, many international non-government organisations, including
several from Canada, Italy, France, the US and Sweden, presented donations to Da
Nang. VNA/VOVNews
