Prestigious scholarships to study
in Australia
The Australian Embassy is pleased to announce that applications are now open for
the 2011 Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) Scholarships.
Up to 200 ALA Scholarships will be offered to high achievers in the Asia-Pacific
region to undertake postgraduate study in Australia in 2011.
The ALA Scholarships program is now a part of the Australia Awards, launched by
Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in November 2009.
Since 2006, 72 Vietnamese have been awarded ALA Scholarships – this represents a
total value of $A9.5 million, equivalent to more than 160 billion VND.
The ALA Scholarships aim to foster leadership, build partnerships and linkages
and address issues of priority that affect people across the Asia-Pacific region.
Scholars will be selected on the basis of leadership qualities and academic
achievement in the following priority areas: economic growth, education,
environment, food security, gender, governance, health, disability, human
rights, infrastructure, regional stability, rural development, and water and
sanitation.
The ALA Scholarships provides funding for study at Masters and Doctorate levels
in Australia’s leading education institutions.
Masters scholarships can be valued at up to A$150,000 and doctorate scholarships
up to A$300,000. This includes an extensive leadership development program for
all scholars.
Many of the 3000-plus Vietnamese alumni of Australian Award programs (ALA
Scholarships, the Australian Development Scholarships and the Endeavour Awards)
have gone on to successful careers and contributed to Vietnam’s impressive
economic and social development.
ALA Scholarship applications close on Wednesday 30 June 2010.
