*Announcement of September 2011 Meeting*

To meet the demand for information and skills in providing care and
treatment to the asthmatic children in Ha Noi and surrounding locations, the
Department of Allergy and Immunology at the National Viet Nam Pediatric
Hospital is running the “Pediatric Asthma Club” on the third Sunday of every
month during the afternoon.



This is a very important and useful exchange forum between the
parent(s)/direct care givers who have asthmatic children and the hospital
health professionals. Attendees could learn, discuss and share experiences
about better treatment adherence as well as improving daily care to minimise
potential harm to the quality of life of asthmatic children and their
families.



Through a number of monthly gatherings, the following useful issues were
presented having gained attention from club members



·        What is asthma and how to control the asthma for the children

·        How to identify the factors which cause asthma and learning to
prevent asthma

·        Acute asthma - starting causes of acute asthma

·        Asthma and nutrition for the child
·        Asthma and sports/exercise
 ·        How to manage acute asthma



The health professionals involved are responsible to produce the practical
handouts for the attendees, taking into account the living condition of the
Vietnamese children. For example: In the July 2011 meeting, the “Individual
Asthma Plan of Action” was distributed to the club members to teach the
primary care givers how to recognize the signals and levels of asthma in
order to take appropriate action.
