Dear Colleagues,
The UK Department for International Development (DFID) has launched a
consultation for a new *White Paper on International Development*. The
White Paper will set out how the UK Government aims to continue helping
deliver better lives for the world's poorest and most vulnerable people
in an increasingly interdependent world. It will argue that reducing
poverty is not only a moral imperative, but also a long-term interest in
our increasingly interdependent world.
The consultation document titled *Eliminating World Poverty* is
available at http://consultation.dfid.gov.uk/. It sets the current
context and then outlines some preliminary ideas before posing a series
of questions on four priority areas. As trusted partners in addressing
poverty in India, we would really value your thoughts on how the UK can
further refine our existing agenda. I invite you to visit the website
and post comments. Alternatively, you can send your comments by email to
Karen Mahy (K-mahy at dfid.gov.uk <mailto:K-mahy at dfid.gov.uk>_ _) who is
coordinating the consultation in India. The consultation deadline is 27
May 2009, but we would appreciate comments from our India colleagues by
*17 April 2009*.
Best wishes,
Michael Anderson,
Head, DFID India,
New Delhi.
