Vietnam to raise minimum wage by 20 pct-government
Mon Apr 6, 2009 8:22pm EDT

HANOI, April 7 (Reuters) - Vietnam will raise the country's minimum wage
by around 20 percent as part of a set of measures designed to help
consumers cope with an economic slowdown, the government said on Tuesday.
The wage hike, effective from May 1, will see the minimum salary rising to
650,000 dong ($36) per month from 540,000 dong now, the government said in
a statement.
It also raised pensions by about 5 percent, the report said.
The report warned businesses against "taking advantage" of the wage hike
to raise consumer prices. ($1=17,740 dong) (Reporting by Nguyen Nhat Lam;
