has approved a $100 million loan from the World Bank to implement the second
stage of a poverty reduction project in Vietnam's northern mountainous
region in the next fiscal year, state media said Monday.

Of that fund, the Ministry of Planning and Investment will allocate $14.8
million to the project which will be carried out in Lao Cai, Son La, Dien
Bien, Hoa Binh and Yen Bai provinces.

In the first stage, the project, which began in 2002 in Phu Tho, Lao Cai,
Yen Bai, Son La, Hoa Binh and Bac Giang provinces with $110 million in WB
loans, benefited 70,000 locals.
