We have an established course for all new teaching staff who are more than
half-time, and it is compulsory for all who have not already got a teaching
qualification or at least five years full time experience. However, staff on
fractinal posts less than .5 clearly may also need training and support, and we
also have a growing number of hourly paid staff - some teaching far more hours
than a half-time contract - but because they are not considered permanent staff
they do not have to attend our course, and if they choose to they are not paid
for those hours. This cannot be a unique problem and we are intersted to now
how others deal with the issue of ensuring that part time support get the
training and support they need (and perhaps the students need them to have!)
