HERDSA: submission: WEST Committee

HERDSA is developing a submission to the REVIEW OF HE FINANCING AND POLICY.
The Review Committe is chaired by Mr Roderick West.

HERDSA Members are invited to send information and suggestions for
inclusion in the Society's submission to the President, Associate Professor
Peggy Nightingale (see address below).
*******************************************************

*** This is a most significant review for Higher Education in
Australia,**** both because of its wideranging terms of reference and
because it will set the paramters within which HE will be financed and
structured by the Howard Government.

In brief, the terms of reference are for a 'broad ranging review ...
considering effectiveness in meeting social, economic, scientific and
cultural needs' and 'developments which are likely to shape the provision
of HE in the next two decades'.  The Review Committee is charged with
identifying funding options and options for providing Commonwealth funding
for institutions.
