This has been posted to both the staff development and the herdsa lists: I
apologise to those who receive it twice.

Massey University has set up a joint union-management working party to
review our academic promotions criteria and procedures as our present
systems date back to before we established a brand new campus in Auckland
and merged with a local college of education. We are currently negotiating
to merge with a polytech in Wellington.

We would like to know about examples of good practice, pitfalls to avoid
etc, particularly experiences from multi-campus universities, where
established universities merged with colleges of advanced education etc and
needed to devise more flexible criteria.

I would be very grateful to be advised of relevant web sites that are
accessible externally, or to receive any comments by e mail, or copies of
relevant material faxed or mailed to the address below.

I will of course communicate the outcome of our deliberations to everyone
who responds. This will probably be next year by the time the working
party's recommendations have been finalised and agreed to by employers and
unions.
