VACANCY NO.E/CCE 3/98:  DIRECTOR, CENTRE FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION
UNIVERSITY OF BOTSWANA

The Director is responsible for promoting, planning, directing and
coordinating outreach education for the university including policy
formulation, administration of the centralised support for continuing
and distance education to all academic units of the University and its
affiliated and associated institutions in a technologically oriented
environment.  The Director will provide professional guidance in the
development of policies and strategies for the promotion of continuing
education and distance learning and innovative approaches to the
delivery of programmes of a high quality.

Applicants should have a doctoral degree in any academic discipline,
ten years experience at a university, three of which should have been
at a senior level, an extensive record of research, publications and
educational extension activities and evidence of involvement in
university management, extensive knowledge of continuing education
methods and approaches, experience in the establishment of academic
programmes though continuing and distance education at a university
level and a sound knowledge of computers and the use of modern
information technology.  In addition, the ideal candidate should have
excellent management, human relations and communications skills, good
analytical skills and the ability to conceptualise and undertake
administrative and research projects, excellent understanding and
familiarity with continuing education development issues, excellent
abilities in project analysis, design, development and management as
well as report writing.  Candidates who do not satisfy all the
requirements for the post but have demonstrated potential for further
development may also be considered.   Preference will be give to
suitably qualified citizens of Botswana.

Duration of the Contract
Appointment will be on contract terms for a minimum of three years and
renewable on the basis of satisfactory performance.

VACANCY NO. DRD 1/98:  DIRECTOR, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

The successful candidate will promote, co-ordinate and provide overall
policy direction and leadership in research including
internal/external liaison, mobilisation of research funds,
consultancies and centralised logistical support for research in all
academic units of the University and its affiliated and associate
institutions.  The candidate will also promote the integration of
scholarly and applied research into academic programmes of the
University and provide strategic leadership to Faculties in the
development of research  initiatives and external funding.

Applicants should have a doctoral degree in any academic discipline
and should have attained the rank of Associate professor or above, ten
years experience as an academic staff member, three of which should
have been at a senior level with an extensive record of  teaching,
research and publications, sound knowledge of university management
systems  as well as extensive knowledge of research methodologies,
experience in co-ordinating research programmes at university level or
equivalent institution or the management of a research Institute or
centre, and good information technology skills.  The candidate should
also have excellent management, human relations and communication
skills, excellent analytical skills and ability to conceptualise and
undertake administrative and research projects, excellent
understanding and familiarity with multi-disciplinary research and
effective abilities in fund-raising, report writing, project analysis,
management and design.  Candidates who do not satisfy all the
requirements for the post but have demonstrated potential for further
development may also be considered. Duration of Contract Appointment
