APPOINTMENTS TO CHAIRS IN EDUCATION AND SPORT
As part of a major investment in excellence in the Faculty of Education,
the University wishes to appoint to four new Chairs. These posts reflect
the University's commitment to the development of Education and Sport in
cultivating an internationally acclaimed institute of education dedicated
to excellence in teaching, research and support for the relevant
professions. Applicants for each of the posts should have high academic
and professional standing. In addition, the posts will involve
responsibility for the strategic development of the relevant field of
study in the University. The Faculty expects to attract applicants who
have developed or are in the process of developing an international
reputation in the field, and who have a strong record of publication and
of attracting research grants.
CHAIR OF LEARNING TECHNOLOGY
The holder of this new established Chair will be expected to provide
research leadership in the integration of two strands of the work of the
Faculty of Education: teaching and learning and information and
communication technology. The holder of the Chair will be expected to
develop the conceptual and empirical underpinnings of pedagogical
decision-making in the application of the new learning technologies. The
post seeks to attract a person with interests in the application of
information and communication technology to learning in schools and other
settings, including higher education.
CHAIR OF CLASSROOM LEARNING
The Chair of Classroom Learning has been established to provide a focal
point for a range of current research initiatives concerned with the
enhancement of teaching and learning in the classroom; to provide a
stronger research underpinning for teacher education programmes within the
Faculty; and as part of the Facultyís determination to ensure that
research is more sharply focused on the enhancement of the quality of
pupilsí learning in classrooms.
CHAIR OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND YOUTH SPORT
Created as an established Chair in the Department of Physical Education,
Sport and Leisure Studies, the holder of the Chair will provide leadership
and direction in all aspects of young peopleís sport in Scotland. The
successful applicant will have a doctorate in Physical Education or a
related subject together with the capacity to apply that expertise to
physical education, sport participation and performance. S/he will
demonstrate commitment to initiate and direct innovation in these areas
and will be expected to develop strong links with the physical education
community and Scottish sporting institutions as well as with other parts
of the faculty and the University more widely. The holder of the Chair
will be expected to lead research activity within the Department, and be
proactive in the pursuit of external funding.
CHAIR OF SPORT SCIENCE/
CHAIR OF SPORT SCIENCE
The Chair in Sport Science, which has been created as an established Chair
in the Department of Physical Education, Sport and Leisure Studies, is
intended to provide leadership and direction in sport science. The
successful applicant will have a doctorate in sport science or a related
discipline, evidence of research leadership and promotion, and the
potential to exercise credible leadership and support within the fields of
sport and exercise biomechanics. The Chair in Sport Science is intended
to attract a specialist in biomechanics to complement the existing
research expertise in the department. The appointee will be expected to
contribute to the development of sport in the University and to enable the
University to exploit the opportunities afforded by the Scottish Institute
of Sport.
Salary for all of the above appointments will be on the professorial
scale, minimum £35,170 per annum.
