Training Consultant
Training and Development Unit
We are seeking a training consultant to join the Training and Development
Unit. Located on the Palmerston North Campus, the position has as its
primary focus the design and delivery of training programmes in teaching
and/or research skills that will meet the needs of staff in their role as
academics. This is a position offering considerable variety and scope for
initiative including opportunities to contribute to the on-going development
of the TDU. The position will require some travel to Massey University's
campuses in both Auckland and Wellington.
You will have a post-graduate level degree, successful tertiary teaching
experience, and the ability to design, develop and deliver staff training
programmes across a range of areas. Experience and expertise in one or more
of the following areas will be an advantage: instructional design, flexible
learning and teaching, use of multimedia and educational technology, group
facilitation, training needs analysis, and skills in the area of online
delivery of programmes. Also required will be an understanding of the
teaching and research roles of academic staff and the interrelationship of
these, together with knowledge and understanding of current adult learning
theories and practices.
Knowledge and understanding of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
within a tertiary education context is important.
The Training and Development Unit is a small team involved in the delivery
of a wide range of staff development programmes across the university.
Flexibility and the ability to work cooperatively across a number of areas
in addition to the focus areas of teaching and research skills development
are critical requirements.

STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTABILTIES
Job Title: Training Consultant
Department: Training and Development Unit
Human Resources Section
Accountable to: The Director
Purpose:
The primary focus of this position is to support and improve teaching and/or
research across the University. You will also be expected to contribute to
other training and development programmes offered by the TDU.
Key Accountabilities:
· Initiate, design, develop, deliver and evaluate training programmes
in the fields of teaching and learning including online and flexible
learning and teaching, and/or research.
· Incorporate into training and development programmes the principles
of the Treaty of Waitangi in accordance with the Massey University Charter
and Strategic Plan.
· Identify, liaise with, and involve internal and external presenters
to assist in the delivery of programmes as appropriate.
· Provide a consultancy service to managers and staff to assist them
to identify and meet training and development needs.
· Conduct training and development needs analyses to inform TDU plans
and goals.
· Participate in the development of TDU and other University policies
as appropriate.
· Develop personal and training skills and professional expertise and
contribute to the development of knowledge and expertise in the field of
training and development through appropriate professional development
activities.
Position Competencies:
· Ability to relate to and deliver training to both academic and
general staff at all levels.
· An understanding of the research and teaching roles of academic
staff and the relationship between these roles.
· Knowledge of adult learning theories and practices.
· Skills in training needs analysis.
· Proven presentation skills.
· Self-direction, initiative and an ability to work independently.
· Ability to work collaboratively on joint projects and cooperatively
as part of a small team.
