LEARNING SKILLS ADVISER (HALF-TIME)  (REF: 41/01)

REGISTRAR'S OFFICE (STUDENT SERVICES)

Applications are invited for the above ongoing appointment. The Learning
Skills Adviser will be located in Student Services and will be required to
work in conjunction with another Learning Skills Adviser and a Postgraduate
Education Officer to assist students improve their learning skills and
hence maximise their academic performance. The role is intended to
facilitate learning in students from science and engineering disciplines.
Main duties include assisting students overcome study or academic problems;
planning and teaching courses and workshops on learning skills; liaising
with science and engineering faculties and departments to facilitate the
development of learning skills programs; establishing links and liaising
with student associations, Centre for English Language Teaching, Centre for
Staff Development and Library; maintaining essential records of activities
and student contact. Applicants must have postgraduate qualifications in
science, engineering or a related field with a superior academic record.
The successful applicant will have demonstrable competence in science,
engineering or mathematics teaching; knowledge of the delivery of education
programs to University students and experience in teaching this group;
experience in planning, designing and evaluating education/learning
programs; high level written communication and interpersonal skills;
organisational skills including database and time management; the ability
to work independently but cooperatively with other staff and sections of
the University. The ability to make a professional and independent
contribution to the Student Services team and its objectives will be highly
valued and persons with appropriate qualifications and experience are

SALARY RANGE:	HEE Level 8  $53,249 - $58,318 p.a. (full-time)
