International Consortium for Educational Development (ICED) AND the Society
for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) conferences 2004.

Lynn Sorenson has drawn our attention to an extension of time for proposals
for these conferences:

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO FEBRUARY 15!

Aline Germain-Rutherford, co-chair of the ICED2004 conference
and chair of the program committee has notified us of the deadline
extension (to Feb. 15) for proposals for the conferences of the
International Consortium for Educational Development AND the Society
for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE). These
conferences are being held in Ottawa in June of this year. This
extension was granted, in part, due to the recent/current "mydoom"
and other int'l. 'net problems but regardless, it allows HERDSA
members to propose sessions for either/both of these outstanding
conferences now.

The proposal process/form is short and uncomplicated. Those of us
who enjoyed the ICED conference in Perth can attest to the value of
this gathering. In particular, consider submitting/attending the
ICED conference which brings faculty developers from all over the
world.
Best regards, Lynn Sorenson

Request for information re Teaching Awards

Apologies for cross-postings.

Greetings,

For the last several years at Murdoch, we have rewarded good teaching
through Teaching Excellence Awards, similar to the National Awards.
See http://www.tlc.murdoch.edu.au/eddev/grants/awards/. We are
starting to think about whether this the most appropriate mechanism
to reward good teaching.

We are aware that many universities also have similar award schemes.
However, we don't know of many institutions that are doing things
differently, except for the School of Biomedical Sciences at Curtin
with its Teaching Performance Index.

If you are aware of alternative approaches to rewarding teaching
excellence, and are willing to share it, please let me know. I will
share any collected information with respondents.

Happy New Year,
Rob

Please reply to Dr Rob Phillips, Senior Lecturer,
