Collaborating to offer small courses/subjects 17-18 May, University of New
England, Armidale, NSW (http://www.une.edu.au/collaborating/)

The University of New England in association with the Carrick Institute is
pleased to offer a two day forum on models of collaboration for small
courses/disciplines. The event is sponsored by the Carrick Institute so your
registration and catering needs will be provided for.
The forum will provide an opportunity to share and examine:
• models of collaboration for small courses
• the issues that need to be resolved in successful collaborations to
support small   subjects
• courses/disciplines where collaborations are being explored
The program includes speakers who have been involved or are currently
involved in a collaboration to support small courses/subjects. These are
across a number of discipline areas and include those collaborations that
have been tried and no longer exist, those that are well established and
those being developed now. Check out our website and register now!

AUSTRALIAN UNIVERSITIES AND INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS

Queensland academic Dr James Page has recently published an assessment of
the way Australian universities have been complying with the 1997 UNESCO
standard-setting instrument on higher education, the Recommendation
Concerning the Status of Higher Education Teaching Personnel. The
Recommendation is an important international standard dealing with higher
education and was accepted by the unanimous vote of the UNESCO General
Conference in November 1997. The article, entitled ‘Australian Universities
and International Standards: Compliance with the 1997 UNESCO Recommendation
Concerning the Status of Higher Education Teaching Personnel’, is published
in the latest issue of the Journal of Higher Education Policy and
Management, 2007, 29(1):95-101.
