HERDSA 2007 conference update

Colleagues,  

The 2007 HERDSA conference planning is well underway and it looks to be an exciting conference. Two important pieces of information:

Workshop details for Sunday 8 July 1-4pm are now available at: http://conference.herdsa.org.au/2007/program.cfm If you are planning to attend any of the workshops you will need to register separately for them ($100) on the registration form.
 
Due to the large number of refereed paper and showcase submissions we are still finalising papers. We anticipating getting final responses back this week to all authors in these categories. Hence we have extended the Early Bird Registration until Friday 8 June. 

Once all papers have been finalised a draft program will posted on the website

Group of Eight Chair, Professor Glyn Davis AC, will outline a new vision for Australia’s higher education system in an address to the National Press Club, Canberra, on Wednesday 6 June 2007.

The address will be broadcast live on ABC Television from 12.30pm – 1.30pm.

AUQF2007 – Early Bird Registrations close June 1

AUQF2007, 11th -13th July at Wrest Point in Hobart, is the premier annual forum for discussing quality enhancement and quality assurance in Australian higher education.  Forum highlights include panel discussions on the Impact of Audit and International Trends in Higher Education Quality Assurance. The latter discussion involves speakers from Malaysia, India and Europe. The AUQF also offers an opportunity to hear Keynote speakers from the UK and USA.

THE HONG KONG POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY

EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT CENTRE

The Educational Development Centre of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University invites applications for the following two positions in its E-Learning Development and Support Section (eLDSS): 
Position A: Project Manager/Instructional Design Specialist Position B: Instructional Design Specialist

A) Project Manager/Instructional Design Specialist 

The successful candidate will be appointed as Educational Development Officer and will be required to:

(a) contribute as a core member of eLDSS to promote the effective and integrative use of modern educational technologies for enhancing teaching and learning at the University; 

(b) provide consultation and expertise to subject experts and e-learning project teams on effective application of online pedagogy and instructional design in the development of e-learning materials and online instructional systems;

 (c) monitor the progress of projects, including coordinating the preparation and management of project documentation;

(d) coordinate the QA system and its processes; including implementing improvements;

(e) provide support in the marketing of projects;

(f) plan, develop and offer professional development opportunities for staff in areas such as project management, instructional design and the appropriate use of instructional technologies. 

Applicants should have: 

(a) a recognised higher degree in education, preferably in learning and teaching, instructional design or project management; 

(b) a minimum of eight years’ relevant experience in the areas of project management and/or instructional design, preferably in technology-enriched instruction or e-learning projects; 

(c) excellent facilitation/interactive teaching skills and a commitment to student-centred learning; 

(d) demonstrated high standard of communication, consultation and interpersonal skills; 

(e) demonstrated skills in taking initiative and being a creative problem solver;

(e) commitment to client service and team-oriented approach to work; and 

(f) proven competence and expertise in project management and instructional design for e-learning development and support at the university level. 

B) Instructional Design Specialist 

The successful candidate will be appointed as Educational Development Officer and will be required to:

Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit a portfolio of their recent work/ accomplishments and attend an interview.  

Remuneration 

Salary offered will be commensurate with qualifications and 
experience.  Applicants should state their current and

will be highly competitive.
